About the Owner
Hello! It’s my absolute pleasure to meet you and tell you a little about me and my love of global learning.
As a small child, I knew that my love of travel and different cultures was my drive. I lived in a small community of fewer than 800 people — what did I know about culture and travel? Well, I was blessed with the opportunity to observe my mother working in tourism. After meeting travellers from all over the world, a fire of self-exploration developed — a fire to travel and learn as much as I possibly could about the world and the people in it.
At a very young age, my parents and I moved to my current home — St. John’s, Newfoundland — where my mother pursued a career in law. During the transition period of small-town girl to city girl, I gained a new understanding of what the world had to offer. I participated in student council and all the international studies clubs I could find.

As a former exchange student (and it really hurts to say that, I wish that I could have stayed longer, with all my heart), I was fortunate enough to stay with Melissa and her daughter Meia for the last school year. To everybody thinking of doing an exchange year and going with Home-International: I can assure you that it will be the best decision you could make. Melissa knows exactly what she is doing (she is one of the most amazing people I’ve ever met), Newfoundland is an AWESOME place with the kindest people you’ll ever meet, and you’ll make friends for life and memories that will last just as long.
I have learned and grown sooo much during my year in Newfoundland, I have acquired a completely different view of the world, and most importantly: I have found a home at the other end of the world. There is now another place that I feel homesick for, other people that I can call, and miss like, family. And it has made my life so much richer. So, if you are thinking of doing an exchange with Home-International, DO IT! You’ll have the time of your life!
Melissa has been such a great carer to my son, Thames throughout 10 months of the program. There had been so many difficulties at the beginning and thanks to Melissa, those eventually were sorted. The journey of 10 months began like a roller-coaster , yet end as a fun, great life-long experience. Thank you!
